Take Me Back Home

Tomas Israelsson, Bethel, Alaska Tomas, a native of Sweden, went to Bethel in 1990 to handle dogs for Myron Angstman. He says he always like the out doors and it didn’t take him long to get hooked on mushing. He ran several races with Myron’s dogs, including the 1992 Iditarod. In the fall of 1992, Tomas married Suzi and within two months of their marriage, they had a team with dogs from Angstman and Roger Robertson. He says the dogs he’s running today come from the Kuskokwim Delta between Bethel and Aniak. He’s been planning for his next Iditarod since he finished the 1992 race and is looking forward to seeing what his team can do in the ‘96 race. Thirty-one year old Tomas is a self-employed carpenter. He’s worked at his trade off and on for the last 14 years. In his spare time he says he enjoys hunting and fishing.
