Krista Maciolek, Talkeetna, Alaska A 1985 vacation brought Krista to Alaska. At 20 years old, she was ready to start a new exciting life and decided Alaska was the place to do it. She began mushing in 1987 when she met musher Pecos Humphreys. She and Pecos have since married and live in the Talkeetna area. Krista has competed in the Klondike 300, the Copper Basin 300, the Knik 200 and the Iditarod twice. She has a contract with the National Weather Service to give weather reports daily. She is a board member of KTNA-FM Radio. She and Pecos have been alternating years running the Iditarod. This will be Krista’s third time on the Iditarod Trail.

David Milne, Scotland & Two Rivers, Alaska This 33 year old bachelor hails from Dundee, Scotland, and now resides in Two Rivers. His parents had a small kennel of working dogs and he spent countless hours taking care of and working with those dogs, mainly Black Labradors, Golden Retrievers and Springier Spaniels. David left Dundee on a worldwide adventure trip in 1984, traveling to New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Tibet, Nepal, India and then to the United States. In 1988 he arrived in Alaska via the "lower 48" and spent his first winter here with Rick Swenson in Two Rivers. He went back to Scotland and spent four years studying accounting at Dundee University, spending Christmas vacations at Rick’s kennel. After graduating, Swenson offered David the opportunity to stay at his kennel as a handler. He says being here and racing in the Iditarod is a "dream come true."

Roy Monk -- Burnley, England Roy Monk was born in England in 1938. He studied organic chemistry and then worked as a research chemist developing organic pigments and dyestuffs. In 1964, Roy started his own company producing pigment elaborations, which he sold in 1990. He now lives in Willow during the winter and in England during the summer. Roy and his wife Lesley have alpacas and red deer as well as a stables and riding school. Roy started mushing in 1980. Lesley ran the Iditarod in 1988 and he says after she finished the race,, "I had to run too." Roy has five adult children and a new grandson.

Lisa Moore -- Fairbanks, Alaska Twenty-five year old Lisa Moore was born in Ohio but her family moved to Nome when she was very young. She began mushing with her mother, Barbara, when she was only five years old and say she has wanted to run the Iditarod ever since her mother did it in 1980. She ran the Jr. Iditarod four years and ran her first Iditarod in 1994. She had to scratch in Koyuk and looks forward to finishing this year. Lisa has been a veterinary technician for five years and works for the Aurora Animal Clinic. She is single and enjoys running dogs, reading, crafts and obedience training.

Diana Moroney, Chugiak, Alaska Diana Moroney moved to Alaska in 1976 to accept a job with the Naval Arctic Research Laboratory. She was born in California in 1955. Diana began her mushing career in 1981 and ran her first Iditarod in 1984. She has participated in six Iditarod races since. Her best finish was 19th in 1994. Following the 1995 race, Diana completed her commercial pilot, instrument and multi engine training and she’s now flying as first officer for Woods Air Service in the DC-3. She says, " Since I will be 40 in December I thought I had better decide on a career." Diana is married to Iditarod veteran and pilot, Bruce Moroney. She has one son, John.
