"Cub Scout"
"Born deep in dens in late January or February, new cubs do not see the light of day until late April or early May. Along Alaska's coast, bears descend to beaches to graze on vegetation and await summer fish runs. Resting after chasing salmon in a shallow creek, this sow allowed her damp and chilly offspring to claim a warm and comfy vantage point. Seeing a cub climb repeatedly onto his mother's back--sometimes riding as she walked--was a first for me in fifteen years of bear watching."
