"This photo is the result of a chance encounter with a wolf in the backcountry of Denali National Park. This large male was part of a pack following caribou migrating through the park in early September. I saw the wolf across a wide river bar as he headed in my general direction. His course never altered, and we met face to face at thirty feet on a moose trail in thick willows."
