"Sometimes the atmospheric conditions are just right for producing spectacular color at sunrise and sunset. Because of volcanic ash from recent eruptions of Alaska's Redoubt Volcano and Mt. Spur, there was some beautiful dawn light over Mt. McKinley in the fall of 1991. I captured this mountain portrait in September as the intense pink of first light touched the mountain."
