As of July 2008, 48th Avenue is now Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

The MOA is proposing an extension of 48th Avenue (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue) that will parallel Tudor Road and provide access to future development in the 3500 Tudor area. This road would connect the intersection of Boniface Parkway to the intersection of 48th Avenue (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue) and Elmore Road and would provide improved connectivity to Abbott Loop and Dowling Road. This important road link was identified in the East Anchorage Study of Transportation and the MOA Long Range Transportation Plan to provide much needed east/west connectivity through Anchorage. This project will enhance transportation system connectivity, improve traffic circulation and reduce congestion at the Lake Otis Parkway and Tudor Road intersection. Construction is currently anticipated to occur in 2008.

In addition, a 48-inch water transmission main would be routed within the proposed corridor. The construction of the proposed roadways and the AWWU water main may occur in different phases.

WINTER SHUTDOWN UPDATE

Winter shutdown began on December 12, 2008 and will continue until mid-February 2009. Some construction may occur over the winter if weather conditions allow. Updates will be provided to trail users about any proposed construction.

For theduration of winter shutdown there is a temporary detour for the Campbell Creek Trail. This detour is located along Tudor Road and Elmore Road. This detour provides the safest route for commuters and recreationists and will provide users continued trail access. The detailed map above will provide you with this winter's closures and detours.
